Charlottetown, PE, Canada – September 14, 2012 – Island Abbey Foods Ltd, a PEI based natural health product and specialty food producer, has announced the grand opening of their new production facility in Charlottetown, PEI. The new facility will allow the company to more than quadruple production capacity with 13,500 sq ft of new production, warehousing, lab and office environments, supported by
several new pieces of automation, packaging and lab equipment.

This move was a result of an expansion project that Island Abbey Foods Ltd has been involved in for the last two years. For Island Abbey Foods, this new facility’s added capacity will enable the company to expand into multiple new international markets where latent demand for Honibe® brand products has been building for many years.

“We are extremely pleased to announce the grand opening of our state of the art production facility in the PEI BioCommons,” stated John Rowe, President of Island Abbey Foods Ltd. “The move into our new plant represents a three year effort to lay the groundwork for our company’s growth for many years to come. The added production and research capacity will ensure we will be able to introduce our current Honibe – Pure Honey Joy® line of products, as well as, future products into many new markets around the world.”

Island Abbey Foods Ltd will be hosting a grand opening celebration at their new location, 20 Innovation Way, Friday September 14th, 2012 from 1PM to 3PM. In attendance for this celebration will be guests from the industry, research and government partners, international delegates, and attendees from across the country. Island Abbey Foods Ltd welcomes the public to stop by their new location to be a part of this momentous occasion. There will be food and refreshments served, along with other local companies exhibiting as part of the opening.

The Honibe® Honey Drop® has received major national and international recognition having been awarded the most prestigious food award in the world at SIAL Paris 2010, the Global SIAL d’Or (Gold Medal), which recognized the Honibe® Honey Drop® as “The Best New Food Product in the World”. Using the same proprietary technology as the award winning Honey Drop®, the Honibe® product line has since expanded to include Honey Delights® candies, Honey Sprinkles™ for cooking and baking, and Honey Lozenges™ for coughs and colds.
